Andalusite presents three main properties :
Andalusite is a prismatic and anhydrous crystal,
Andalusite is a high purity mineral,
Andalusite transforms into mullite at low temperature, between 1200 and 1550°C for micronized grades.
For refractory applications, Andalusite usage provides many advantages :
Volume stability,
Very good creep resistance and refractoriness under load,
High thermal shock resistance,
Good chemical attack and slag and metal penetration resistances.
Due to these characteristics, Andalusite is used for a large range of applications. The refractory industry is the main primary user, andalusite being a component of both shaped and unshaped refractories. The steel, glass, aluminium and cement industries are the main end-users. Thanks to a customised range of products, andalusite is also used for technical ceramics and foundries applications.
